Upto 1980, there was not a single institution imparting education & training to the mentally retarded children & other catagories of handicaps in the industrially & commercially developed as well as populous regions of Thane, Dombivli, Kalyan, Ambernath etc.

The parents were, therefore required to take their children / wards in need of such special care / training to Mumbai everydaybesides finnacial & other hardships. Appreciating these difficuilties, seven hardcore social workers came together on September 06' 1981, the year for the handicapped & established

A S T I T V A' (meaning 'Entity' in Sanskrit)

The trust wedded to the cause of education, training & rehabilitation of the mentally retarded & other catagories of handicaps like deaf and mute, blind & physically handicapped.
